DIY On Location Power Supply

Studio 3E : March 7, 2014 3:56 PM : DIY

Having portable power for an on location shoot can be invaluable when you need it. Profoto’s portable battery pack runs about $1600.00 while Paul C Buff’s Vagabond II unit runs about $299.00 new (Note: PCB no longer lists the Vagabond II for sale on their Web site, however you can find them used by searching the Web. One advantage of the Vagabond II vs. the replacement Vagabond Mini Lithium is the battery life (shots at full power). Additionally recycle time is slightly faster on the Vagabond II. All that being said, this video shows you how to setup your own DIY on location battery pack. There is electricity /power involved so if you choose to do this, you are doing it at your own risk. Try to be smart about it.
